Fur flies off the shelves at ASPCA

It was adopt-’til-you-drop at the ASPCA as New Yorkers rushed to scoop up furry new friends for a bargain.

The nonprofit shelter held its eighth annual “Cat Friday” event at its East 92nd Street location to help clear cages and let bargain-hunting animal lovers name their own adoption fee.

Quishauna Williams and her 6-yearold daughter, Aniylah (above), took home sweet little Charlotte, a 2month-old tabby kitten, for a cool $10.

“It helped a lot because we just came out of the shelter system in July and just moved into our apartment,” Williams, 26, said of the adoption event. “I didn’t mind paying if I had to, but it worked out very well, saved a little money.”

The mom, who is pregnant with her second child, spent the last five years in and out of city shelters. She said she agreed to let her daughter pick out a kitten as a way to celebrate their first Christmas together in a real home.

“I love her,” Aniylah said, her eyes lighting up as she took Charlotte out from her carrier.

About 60 cats and kittens were looking for their fur-ever homes at the shelter. Donations ranged from a quarter to $100, according to Rena Lafaille, ASPCA’s administration director.

Adoption fees for cats and kittens normally range between $75 to $125. Cats older than 3 are free.
