At‘tacks’ in Queens bike lanes

- Danielle Furfaro, Amanda Woods s

What a tacky move! A bike-hating jerk dumped hundreds of thumbtacks into a popular bike lane in Queens — infuriating local riders and lawmakers.

A dad riding along 43rd Avenue in Sunnyside with his two kids found the tacks in the lane and his tires this week.

“I just want it to be known that whoever did this is obviously in opposition against these already existing bike lanes and their protest could have seriously injured or even killed me or one of my kids,” Pete Shore posted on Facebook.

City Councilman Jimmy Van Bramer sent a staff member to inspect the bike lane. The staffer found tacks (right) scattered across several blocks between 48th and 43rd streets along the 43rd Avenue bike lane.

“This campaign of lies and mistruths about the bike lanes has gone on for a while, but it’s getting increasingly desperate and angry and now it’s taking a violent turn,” Van Bramer told The Post.

A vocal group of Queens residents have complained about the bike lanes, saying they cost parking spots and thus affect area businesses.

Cyclist Alan Baglia, who uses the lanes to take his 8-year-old daughter to school, said they have improved travel in Sunnyside and Woodside.

“Families use these lanes,” he said. “Someone should be prosecuted. . This is a credible threat.”
