MANHATTAN ROCKS
Priciest ‘tie the knot’ rings in 5 boros
Manhattan ladies are twice as lucky in love — or at least in the size of their engagement rings — as their outer-borough counterparts.
The average Manhattanite drops $13,378 to put a ring on it, while lovebirds in Brooklyn, Queens, The Bronx and Staten Island spend only $6,000, which still beats the national average of $5,764, according to data from wedding site TheKnot.
Long Island residents spend $9,500, while couples from Westchester/Hudson Valley cough up an average of $8,650.
Manhattan couples will go on to spend more money on their nuptials ($76,944) than it costs for a year at NYU ($69,984). Long Island lovebirds also spend big ($51,613), followed by the outer boroughs ($46,808) and Westchester/Hudson Valley ($46,707). All easily eclipse the national average of $33,391.
Long Island couples have 17 percent more guests (159) share their big day than the average US or Manhattan wedding (136), while Westchester/Hudson Valley (131) and the outer boroughs (126) opt for smaller affairs, the data show.
Manhattan brides take the cake when it comes to forking over cash on a wedding dress. They spend an average of $2,504 — 66 percent more than the national average of $1,509. Long Island brides also splurged ($2,347), followed by Westchester/ Hudson Valley ($2,077) and the outer boroughs ($1,636).
An expensive engagement, however, could lead to an expensive breakup, as in the case of a Manhattan couple who in 2016 planned a $325,000 wedding at The Pierre hotel that was canceled after the rehearsal dinner devolved into a brawl.
