YULE HATE THIS SIGN

Decorations cast a bad ‘spell’ on tunnel

The Christmas decorations at the Holland Tunnel are driving motorists nuts.

Workers who decked the halls at the Jersey-side toll plaza turned the signage into an eyesore when they slapped a triangular tree over the letter “N” instead of the “A” — and made the crossing a “TONNEL” by putting a wreath over the “U.”

The festive failure is so bad that one angry commuter has gotten more than 600 signatures on a petition demanding the Port Authority fix the decorations — saying it’s a holiday nightmare for people with OCD.

“I look at it and it makes me itch. It gives me anxiety and anger — why wouldn’t they just put [the tree] in front of the A?” fumed Cory Windelspecht, 38, of Tribeca, whose change.org petition claims that 1 to 3 percent of Americans have obsessive-compulsive disorder.

“One guy told me he avoids it completely and takes the Lincoln Tunnel because of the decorations.”

In a video promoting the petition, Windelspecht proclaims, “Every day, New Yorkers and New Jerseyians have to pass through these gates to get to the city of New York and they are forced to stare at this OCD nightmare.”

He also says in the video that “when the tree is moved over to the letter A, this world is going to be a better place.”

A PA spokesman said, “We have spoken to Mr. Windelspecht and understand his point of view.”

He declined to say, however, if his agency would fix the problem.

On Tuesday, the petition had garnered 619 out of its goal of 1,000.

Windelspecht said he now plans to speak at a public PA meeting on Thursday.

“Who are you hurting by changing it?” he asked. “It isn’t going to cost you anything.”
