Prez & Mueller won’t talk: Rudy
Rudy Giuliani said Sunday that the only way President Trump would sit for questioning with special counsel Robert Mueller was “over my dead body.”
During an appearance on “Fox News Sunday,” Trump’s lawyer said he’d never let the president go anywhere near Mueller “after what they did to [former National Security Adviser Michael] Flynn. Trapped him into perjury.
“They’re a joke,” Giuliani added. “Over my dead body, but you know, I could be dead.”
Flynn faces sentencing Tuesday for lying to the FBI about his conversations with Russia’s ambassador to the US during Trump’s presidential transition period.
Giuliani (inset below) also mocked the Mueller probe, saying, “Yes, there are several unpaid tickets back in 1986 and ‘87 that haven’t been explained.”
The former New York City mayor accused Mueller of pursuing Trump for “a noncrime collusion” with Russia during the 2016 campaign and also said Trump’s alleged involvement in campaign-finance violations with former lawyer Michael Cohen didn’t amount to a crime.
On ABC’s “This Week,” Giuliani called Cohen “pathetic” in the wake of his sentencing last week to three years in prison for crimes that included paying porn star Stormy Daniels and former Playboy model Karen McDougal to keep silent about their claimed affairs with Trump.
“He’s a lawyer, he’s thee guy you depend on to determine whether you should ld do it this way or that way,” y,” Giuliani said of Cohen. n. “Unless you’re God, this his man — you’ll never know ow what the truth is. He lies to fit the situation you’re in.” n.”
Trump, meanwhile, hile, blasted Cohen during a series of Sunday tweets ts in which he attacked the Mueller probe as a “Russsian Witch Hunt Hoax” ” and a “Democrat Scam.”
“Remember, Michael Cohen only became a ‘Rat’ after the FBI did something which was absolutely unthinkable & unheard of until the Witch Hunt was illegally started. They BROKE INTO AN ATTORNEY’S OFFICE! Why didn’t they break into the DNC to get the Server, or Crooked’s office?” the president wrote, invoking the nickname he bestowed on vanquished presidential rival Hillary Clinton.
But Cohen’s former lawyer-turned-adviser Lanny Davis said Cohen has “corroborating evidence for everything” that he’s told investigators.
During an appearance on CBS’s “Face the Nation,” Davis also said the FBI had a proper warrant when agents searched Cohen’s office, home and hotel room — then criticized Trump for calling Cohen a “rat.”
“That’s the language of a mobster, not of the president,” he said.
Also Sunday, a new poll showed that 62 percent of Americans don’t believe Trump when he talks about Mueller’s probe into Russian meddling in the 2016 election. The NBC News/Wall Street Journal survey asked whether Trump “had been honest and truthful” and found that 51 percent of respondents “strongly” disagreed with that notion.
Another 11 percent said they “somewhat” disagreed, while 18 percent strongly agreed and 15 percent somewhat agreed. The ppoll also found an increase in the number of people who believe Trump has been implicated in the wrongdoing of his associates.
