Scandal derails UN nom

- Post Staff

State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert (inset) — facing a nanny scandal — says she no longer wants to be considered for the UN ambassador job.

Her nomination began to go south after the White House was told that she once hired an immigrant who was in the US legally but wasn’t authorized to work here, Bloomberg News reported, quoting two people familiar with the matter.

“I am grateful to President Trump and Secretary [of State Mike] Pompeo for the trust they placed in me for considering me . . . However, the past two months have been grueling for my family, and it is in the best interest of my family that I withdraw.’’

The department did not say whether the revelation could jeopardize her current job. But Pompeo’s statement wishing her “nothing but the best in all her future endeavors’’ suggests it might, the news service added.

Trump began discussing potential new candidates for the UN post Saturday evening, the report said.
