Help on the Verizon

Failed installation snafu solved

- Dear John

Dear John: I moved into a townhouse complex in July 2017. As FiOS was not yet available, I asked Verizon to install Wi-Fi and phone.

The technician came out and installed a box, but he could not make the service connect.

He said a Verizon team would come in the afternoon.

No one came. He did not leave a password or phone number.

After a week or so I returned the box to Verizon and contacted Cablevision.

The Verizon equipment never ever worked, but the company has been harassing me for over a year.

When I call it says I am talking to the wrong division, but the ‘right’ division never calls me back.

Now it is sending this matter to a collection agency. Please help. L.L.

Dear L.L.: I called Verizon for you and the problem has been solved.

And Verizon says there won’t be any damage to your credit history. Let me know if that turns out not to be the case.

And I did confirm with you that what Verizon is telling me is the truth.

According to you: “A woman by the name of Kim called from Verizon on Thursday night, Jan. 3. She didn’t ask me to explain anything as I recall, but, she called at 8 or 9 p.m. and said the business offices were closed and she would take care of this and call me back.

“She called on Friday and said it was all taken care of. I asked about the damage of being sent to a collection agency and she said not to worry it was being taken care of.

“I have not received anything in writing. Thank you.” Dear Readers: Last week I brought up the issue of the many millions of dollars that E-ZPass bills drivers’ credit cards before the money actually goes out for tolls.

A reader brought up the fact that there is no accountability for this money. Where is it banked? What is it used for before the tolls are paid? Who controls it?

E-ZPass still hasn’t told me where all that money is.

But I did get a call from PJ Wilkins, executive director of EZPass Group. That’s essentially the parent company of all the E-ZPass systems throughout the country.

Wilkins says each system — like New York, New Jersey, the Port Authority, etc. — controls its own money. And he gave me the name of someone who knows where the New York money goes.

I e-mailed that guy and he never got back to me.

Curious, no?
