Mom-son slay tied to suicide
Bx. beau kills self
The man suspected of slaughtering his girlfriend and her 14-year-old son in The Bronx has been found dead after apparently committing sui-cide by jumping in front of a train in Westchester, police sources said Monday.
The remains of Hector Cruz, 51, were discovered at about 9:40 a.m. Sunday on the tracks at the Metro-North Hartsdale station, sources said.
The body was identified as Cruz (bottom) as police were seeking him in connection with the murders of Marisol Ortiz (center), 51, and her son, Alanche del Orbe (top).
The mother and son were found dead Sunday afternoon in their Belmont apartment — with Alanche strangled, Ortiz stabbed in the head and both bludgeoned with exercise weights, sources said.
Torn-up cash had been left scattered on Ortiz’s body, according to sources. Ortiz’s cousin Haylee Leonardo told The Post that the mother’s and son’s remains were horribly mutilated. “They will be cremated due to bodies being [badly beaten],” she said via text message. Before Cruz’s body was identified, Leonardo said he and Ortiz had a rocky relationship. And neighbors quickly fingered Cruz for the crime. “This guy is a devil!” said Daniel Oliveras, the super at the family’s building. “He’s a bad character, a really bad guy.” Ortiz’s and Alanche’s bodies were discovered by Ortiz’s 22-year-old daughter at 3:38 p.m. Sunday. A neighbor told NBC News that she heard screams coming from the apartment at 1 or 2 a.m. but thought it was a party. Ortiz’s body was on the floor in the East 185th Street home, and Alanche’s was in his bed in another room, sources said.
