Meghan’s royal baby shower
MEGHAN Markle’s royal baby shower was thrown Wednesday in snowy New York by Amal Clooney with a small group of friends at the Mark Hotel, sources have confirmed to Page Six.
A source told us that Clooney (below) was hosting with Serena Williams, “but it is a very small group of friends in the Mark penthouse.”
It is believed that chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten created a special menu for the party, and colors for the decor were kept neutral because the royal baby’s gender has not yet been revealed. Reportedly the largest hotel penthouse in the US, at more than 10,000 square feet, the two-floor suite, said to go for $75,000 per night, boasts five bedrooms, six bathrooms and four fireplaces, in addition to a private terrace with views of Central Park.
Shower activities reportedly included a lesson in flower arranging.
Gayle King was seen arriving at the Mark, and other guests said to be attending included Misha Nonoo, who reportedly introduced Markle to Prince Harry. Celebrity hairstylist Serge Normant — who did Markle’s hair for her wedding — was with the duchess on Tuesday and was responsible for her glossy locks in front of the cameras. He was also expected to be part of Wednesday’s festivities. Makeup artist and friend Daniel Martin was also seen arriving, wearing a sweatshirt that read “Thank you for being a friend.”
All guests were being gifted trendy Away suitcases, which have built-in phone chargers and cost $275, sources confirmed.
As for the guest of honor, Markle, 37, was expected to depart New York on Wednesday evening for London — as she’s set to join Harry, 34, on their official three-day tour of Morocco, which kicks off Saturday. They are expecting their first child in April. The day before the baby shower, the mother-to-be was seen at the Met Breuer, and later dined at Ralph Lauren’s Polo Bar with Williams and stylist Jessica Mulroney. Markle was also seen at Ladurée in Soho on Saturday.
