Jussie’s Hate-Crime ‘Hoax’: Stoking Flames of Division
Kyle Smith is correct: You probably won’t hear a lot of mea culpas from the usual suspects (“3 magic words you won’t hear,” Feb. 18).
It seems this actor got what he wanted. Few people had heard of him before the report, and now his name is everywhere. Let’s hope he’ll be prosecuted to the full extent of the law, so copycats think twice.

The alleged Jussie Smollett hoax is a teachable moment — and perhaps an example of Trump Derangement Syndrome on steroids.
You almost can’t blame the man, considering the mad echo-chamber in which he lives. Hollywood and the news media have lost any professionalism in reporting on our president. The portrayal of our president as a racist is unfounded.
Democrats and the media push the concept that if racists vote for Trump, he must be one, which is ridiculous.
Actions speak louder than words — just ask the many people who have jobs today due to Trump’s economic policies, which have resulted in record-low unemployment for minorities. Let go of the hate and prejudice against our president.

Smollett’s seemingly false story that he was attacked by two white guys wearing red MAGA hats in a neighborhood that’s largely black and gay never passed the smell test.
How would two men matching that description go into that neighborhood without being seen and set upon themselves?
The truth is that the left
assaults people who are different from them, especially if they’re white men in MAGA hats.

It seems that hatred for Trump has resulted in a tale of a fake attack committed by his supporters.
The liberal mainstream media and Democrats were quick to pick up on the attack and paint Trump’s supporters as racist.
This is their game plan to divide this country. They can’t handle the truth about Trump, so they paint his supporters as beer-drinking, uneducated, backward hillbilly racists.
Nothing can be further from the truth. His supporters are loyal Americans (of all races) who want to see this nation succeed for all legal Americans. You can put me in that corner.

Who is dividing this country, the left or the right? It seems to be the same old story: Trump supporters are accused of hatred, and the media pick up on it as if it is true.
When is the public going to realize you can’t
believe anything that is reported?
Over the last two years, every accusation against the president has been reported as fact. When this story is proven false, I would like to see the press apologize, but I will not hold my breath.

It’s too bad that the liberal media pushed to get first bids on the “interview” with Smollett. Did we really need one so soon after the alleged attack, when there was still an ongoing investigation? There were still so many unanswered questions.
But the worst part of all was the 2020 candidates who just had to add their two cents.
When you listen to Sens. Cory Booker, Kamala Harris and Joe Biden using words like “vicious attack” or “modern-day lynching” before the police had finished their investigation, you can see why we have such a divide in this country today.

The Rev. Al Sharpton said, “If it is found that Smollett and these gentlemen did, in some way, perpetrate something that is not true, they ought to face accountability to the maximum” (“Sharpton: Nail him to the max if he’s lying,” Feb. 19).
The pot calls the kettle black: This cretin did more harm to race relations in New York City than anyone else by propagating the Tawana Brawley hoax. He ruined lives, yet he experienced no consequences himself.
He should not be given an inch of newsprint space.
