TRAINING DAY

- —George A. King III

BANG THE GAVEL

The Yankees might be receiving a sneak preview of what Aaron Judge can do for an entire season if he can avoid injuries. Judge went 1-for-3 with a two-run triple in a 7-4 win over the Braves on Monday night at Champion Stadium. Two years ago Judge was bothered by a shoulder problem in the second half and last year was sidelined with a chip fracture in his right wrist. This spring he is hitting .333 with six homers and 14 RBIs in 13 games.

IT’S OTTA’ HERE

Adam Ottavino, a big free-agent addition to the Yankees’ pen, gave up three runs, two hits and walked two in two-thirds of an inning. In seven games, the Brooklyn native has worked 7 ¹/₃ innings, allowed 11 hits, walked four, whiffed 11 and has a 7.36 ERA.

CAUGHT MY EYE

Before the game Aaron Boone said lefty reliever Stephen Tarpley remained in the mix for a bullpen spot and Tarpley didn’t do anything to hurt his standing. In 1 ¹/₃ innings Tarpley gave up two hits but no runs. In 10 innings across eight games Tarpley hasn’t allowed a run, given up five hits, struck out seven and walked one.

TODAY’S SCHEDULE

Luis Cessa will attempt to continue a strong spring and stay in the race for a rotation spot when he starts against the Rays at GMS Field if expected rains don’t postpone the game.
