Probes against the prez are far from finished
President Trump has special counsel Robert Mueller’s report behind him, but he, his administration and his business interests are still under investigation.
As soon as Attorney General William Barr ended his Thursday news conference about the report, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-NY) requested that Mueller appear before his panel so that Congress can “better understand his findings.”
The House Intelligence Committee quickly followed suit.
Mueller also made 12 secret criminal referrals in the redacted report because they fell outside the scope of his investigation.
Major ongoing Trump-related probes include:
The House Judiciary and Intelligence committees are examining Russian interference in the presidential election and whether Trump obstructed justice.
The House Oversight Committee is looking into reports that Trump overrode career government officials’ recommendations against giving some administration staffers security clearances.
The House Ways and Means Committee has subpoenaed the IRS to provide six years of the president’s tax returns.
The Manhattan US attorney is investigating payments the president’s former lawyer Michael Cohen made to porn star Stormy Daniels and former Playboy Playmate Karen McDougal before the 2016 election.
A number of jurisdictions are investigating the $107 million raised by Trump’s inauguration committee to determine if the funds were used to influence the administration.
New York state is examining the now-defunct Trump Foundation to determine if Trump and members of his family used its resources to further their own business interests and whether Trump took illegal actions to skirt paying taxes.
In Maryland and Washington, attorneys general have filed suit arguing that Trump has violated the emoluments clause of the Constitution by profiting from foreign and domestic officials staying at his DC hotel.
