Freeing Judith Clark: A Slap in the Face of Cops

-

Partially because of Judith Clark, three innocent people lost their lives in 1981 (“Killer Clark gets parole,” April 18).

She’s been allowed to live her life over the last 38 years and will now do so as a free woman. Those who were murdered, as well as their families, lost those years.

Those activists who support her ignore the parole board’s 2017 finding that her release was incompatible with the welfare of society. Obviously, nothing could have happened over the last two years to change that.

All of this is typical of activists and politicians caring more about those who wrong society than about their victims.

I don’t care how much a prisoner does to provide evidence of being rehabilitated. Three law-enforcement men were killed during Clark’s crime.

That this person got parole in an era of cop-killings across the nation sends a message to those who would commit the

same crimes: Don’t worry if you’re convicted, you’ll get paroled eventually. This is not what we want from the criminal-justice system.

Merely by chance, I drove into the Nanuet Mall parking lot on that fateful afternoon in the fall of 1981 and witnessed the aftermath of that horrible event.

I saw Brinks guard Peter Paige lying in the shrubs, and the incredible police response to that chaotic scene.

Rockland County residents will never forget that day, nor will they ever forgive those who committed the crime.

Clark was willfully complicit in the coldblooded murders of two police officers and a Brinks guard. She doesn’t deserve to be free.

In releasing Clark from prison, Cuomo’s parole board sent a clear message not only to relatives of the three dead officers, but also to society itself: Your right to justice takes second place to Clark’s desire to live out the rest of her life in freedom.

Another day, another cop-killer paroled.

Gov. Cuomo, how can you look any cop in the face? Killers should be let free when the dead rise. Cuomo should stick to naming bridges.
