Break coming at good time for Conforto

- By MIKE PUMA

Michael Conforto is confident four days of rest will get him “back” on track.

The Mets outfielder was absent from Sunday’s starting lineup with back tightness, but entered as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning and remained in the game to play right field. Conforto indicated his back is not a significant concern.

“It’s been tight over the last two or three days and if it was affecting me in the cage, affecting my swing or the way I play the field I wouldn’t have been out there,” Conforto said after the Mets’ 8-3 loss to the Phillies at Citi Field. “But we’ve been able to do stuff in the training room, some anti-inflammatories and once I get myself going it’s not all that tight.

“If I was in any pain during the game they wouldn’t allow that to happen for me. ➤ Manager Mickey Callaway’s plan is to pitch Jason Vargas, Noah Syndergaard and Jacob deGrom in succession for the three-game series in Miami to open the second half. Zack Wheeler and Steven Matz are scheduled for the ensuing two games in Minnesota following an off day.

DeGrom is among the Mets contingent representing the NL in the All-Star Game and would be pitching on full rest following Tuesday. Matz made two appearances from the bullpen last week without allowing a run.

➤ The Mets reached the All-Star break with only one series victory in their past nine. That came June 7-9 against the Rockies at Citi Field.

➤ Adeiny Hechavarria’s homer in the ninth was the first of his career in a pinch-hitting role.
