LIFE’S BOOT-IFUL
Soccer gals high on NYC
The Women’s World Cup champions enjoyed the fruits of victory in the Big Apple — with an exclusive rooftop pool party, television interviews and a Nobu dinner before Wednesday’s ride up the Canyon of Heroes.
The US women’s soccer team has been tearing up the town since touching down at Newark Airport and dancing on the tarmac Monday afternoon.
After their triumphant arrival, the team received a hero’s welcome at lower Manhattan’s Wagner Hotel before partying Monday night at trendy Nobu.
They were up early Tuesday for an appearance on “Good Morning America,” where the champs were greeted by screaming fans. During the segment, they proudly declared soccer a “female-dominated sport,” and promised they would keep fighting for equal pay.
“The conversation needs to move from, ‘Are we worth it? Shall we have equal pay?’ ” said star forward and co-captain Megan Rapinoe. “Now it’s time for action.”
The squad then cooled off with a pool party at The James hotel in Soho Tuesday afternoon, with one source telling Page Six no coaches or executives were invited. They also got ready for Wednesday’s celebration with a trip to the Haven Spa on Mercer Street.
Their 2-0 victory over the Netherlands Sunday capped the US’s record fourth World Cup title in the history of the quadrennial tournament, which has been played only eight times.
The champs will be the toast of the town when they are feted with a shower of confetti during their victory parade.
Thousands of fans will descend on Broadway when the parade kicks off at Battery Park at 9:30 a.m., before Mayor de Blasio hands the team the keys to the city in a 10:30 a.m. ceremony at City Hall.
The ticker-tape parade is the city’s first since the US women won their last cup, in 2015.
After the ceremony, the champions will head to LA, where they will be honored at the 2019 ESPY Awards Wednesday night.
Rapinoe — who has said she wouldn’t meet with President Trump if invited to the White House — confirmed Tuesday that the team has accepted Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer’s invitation to visit Congress.
Co-captain Alex Morgan said the New York stop provided a chance to relax and have fun after a grueling tournament.
“This starts an amazing three days of getting to just release all that emotional and physical exhaustion that we’ve had over the last 30 days and just be able to celebrate,” she said.
