IT’S A ’CRAT FIGHT

WH aide mocks AOC/Pelosi squabble

- By BOB FREDERICKS

All these people have their public whatever and their Twitter world. But they didn’t have any following. They’re four people, and that’s how many votes they got.

That public ‘whatever’ is called public sentiment. And wielding the power to shift it is how we actually achieve meaningful change in this country.

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway on Tuesday mocked the spat over border spending between House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and four female freshman Democratic lawmakers as a “major meow moment” and “huge cat fight.”

Conway gloated that Pelosi had put Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts and Rashida Tlaib of Michigan — who call themselves “The Squad” — in their place after they opposed an emergency spending bill because they believed it didn’t go far enough to protect migrant children.

“Those four female Democrats that Nancy Pelosi is brushing back, I think they are all freshman members,” Conway said on Fox News. “A major meow moment — brushing back in a huge cat fight, really ridiculing them — and they voted against the Democratic aid package.”

The spending bill that passed the House included $4.6 billion to ease the humanitarian crisis at the Mexican border.

Moderate House Democrats forced Pelosi to drop a tougher version and go with a bill that had easily passed the Senate in a bipartisan vote.

Pelosi then dissed the four lawmakers, all outspoken liberals with big social-media followings, in an interview published Sunday in The New York Times.

“All these people have their public whatever and their Twitter world,” Pelosi said about the quartet. “But they didn’t have any following. They’re four people, and that’s how many votes they got.”

Ocasio-Cortez fired back at Pelosi on Twitter later Sunday.

“That public ‘whatever’ is called public sentiment,” she wrote. “And wielding the power to shift it is how we actually achieve meaningful change in this country.”

Ocasio-Cortez was not amused with Conway trying to exploit the in-house dispute.

“‘Catfight’ ” is the sexist term Republicans use when two adult women happen to disagree with each other,” the congresswoman tweeted. “The reason they find it so novel &exciting is bc the GOP haven’t elected enough women themselves to see that it can, in fact, be a normal occurrence in a functioning democracy.”

Meanwhile, Tlaib told ABC it was “very disappointing” that Pelosi “would ever try to diminish our voices in so many ways.”

The Squad and other Democrats made headlines last week when they visited overcrowded detention centers at the southern border and described what they said were inhumane conditions.

Conway on Tuesday mocked the tours as well.

“They preen around, going to these detention centers, going to these places and saying, ‘Oh, my God, look what’s happening,’ and then they vote against $4.6 billion worth of aid including the Democratic package,” she said.
