Raining on Our Parade: Soccer Gals’ Bad Behavior

THE ISSUE: New York City’s ticker-tape parade for the US Women’s National Soccer Team champions.

-

▪The women’s World Cup victory should have been something every American could be proud of and the rest of the world envious of (“New Yorkers: You goal, girls!” July 11).

Instead, the team’s behavior and language at the parade disrespected every American who cares about this country. Their behavior made the rest of the world look at us in contempt. Thomas Bregenzer Lake Ariel, Pa. ▪When Megan Rapinoe chose to use the word “motherf - - king” in her speech at the parade on Wednesday, she lost her status as a role model for young women.

I wonder how many little girls repeated it or asked a parent for its meaning. It’s not idle swearing. Dierdre Burgman Manhattan

▪What a shame that Gov. Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio could not find time to attend the funeral of 9/11 first responder Luis Alvarez but found time to attend and speak at the parade for the women’s soccer team.

Some of the players are so vulgar and disrespectful to President Trump and our great country.

Alvarez gave his health to help others on that horrific day. This is disgraceful, disrespectful and disgusting. I’m outraged, and so are many other Americans. Jean Cole Juno Beach, Fla.

▪The Democrats went ballistic over Trump spending $2.5 million for a great July 4th celebration, which they considered a waste of money.

But the city likely spent $1 million or more for a parade of women soccer players, and the expense is considered well worth it.

The funds could have been better used to fix unlivable conditions in public housing, instead of spending money on a parade of women who have no respect for our president. Wayne Galvin Great Neck

▪I watched the US women’s soccer team win the World Cup, and it made me very proud to be an American. All Americans were proud.

But since then, based on their rhetoric and actions against our president and half the population that support him, I have lost all respect for the team and the individual players, especially Megan Rapinoe. Richard Ketay Newark, NJ

▪There was no reason for New York to host a parade for the US soccer team. This is not a New York team.

De Blasio is just trying to upstage Trump. Democrats are grasping at straws. They have nothing going for them. They’re desperate people making acts of desperation. Michael Castagna Brooklyn
