' Sally' test at Katz's for 'climax' contest
They had what she had! Lunch-goers unleashed some truly exciting performances at Katz’s Delicatessen on Friday during a fake-orgasm contest inspired by the famous “When Harry Met Sally” scene.
The Lower East Side pastrami mecca — where Meg Ryan’s toetingling portrayal of Sally Albright was filmed more than 30 years ago — challenged diners to recreate the scene and post it on social media for a prize.
“Have I ever faked an orgasm? Yes, of course. I spent most of my 20s faking orgasms,” said Georgette Culley, a 32-year-old reporter for the UK’s Sun newspaper, who competed while dressed in character as Sally.
About a half-dozen more aching-to-win competitors — including a virgin, a fashion executive and one brave guy — also tossed their “O’s” in the ring to score a special package of deli meats delivered by the 131-yearold restaurant.
Lori White-Phillips, 52, a caretaker from Bedford, Texas, kicked off the so-called “I’ll Have What She’s Having” competition with a series of convincing moans and “yeses.”
“I don’t normally fake it,” she said after busting out her earthshattering climax, which sparked applause from customers.
“He’s usually the one faking it,” she quipped, nodding to her male companion, Ricky Warrington, 44, who was seated across from her, nibbling a sandwich like Billy Crystal’s character, Harry Burns.
To win, diners were instructed to post a video of their performance either from the restaurant or at home, using hashtags including #katzsdeli #fakeitlikemeg and #whenharrymetsally.
Katz owners and a team of social-media influencers will decide on five winners based on “enthusiasm” and “commitment” and announce them Monday, said owner Jake Dell.
“I was in ‘The Vagina Monologues,’ so this is not the first time I’ve orgasmed in front of a lot of people,” said Hannah Dayan, 24, a fashion seller from Queens.
Anna Naples, a 24-year-old teacher from North Carolina who competed, said she was inspired by the flick.
“When Harry Met Sally” is one of my family’s favorite movies . . . so I couldn’t leave without imitating the scene,” she said.
But she confessed to one disadvantage: “I’ve actually never had sex.”
In the famous scene, Sally fakes it to prove Harry probably isn’t as good in bed as he thinks.
The movie celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.
