Trump’s ‘Go Back’ Tweets: A ‘Racist’ Attack on Dems

THE ISSUE: President Trump’s tweets telling four Democrats to “go back” to their countries of origin.

-

With one statement, President Trump has managed to broadcast to the world his stunning ignorance and racism.

In directing Democratic Reps. Alexandria OcasioCortez, Rashida Tlaib, Ilhan Omar and Ayanna Pressley to “go back” to their countries to fix what he feels is broken there, he has made these once-unsympathetic figures into victims, insulted countless Americans in the process and embarrassed himself and our country.

He has also shown that he doesn’t know what he’s talking about, given that only Rep. Omar is an immigrant.

Trump’s comment is consistent with the mindset of a man who reviles people of color, immigrants and those who come from what he calls “s- - -hole countries.”

Is there any question that the president lacks American values, common sense or class?

The fact is that three out of the four Democratic congresswomen he was referring to in his tweet were born in America, and this is the home of all four of them.

Let there be no mistake about this: His comment is racially born, and his scribes will cover for him, as usual. Will someone tell him you don’t have to be of Aryan descent to be an American?

Trump’s tweet is a sentiment shared by many. These women, who dress beautifully and lead privileged lives, have absolutely nothing good to say about the United States.

Omar and Ocasio-Cortez love to tell us that dissent and protest is part of being American. They also love to call anyone who disagrees with them a “racist.”

Guess what? Being patriotic, respecting our laws and having some knowledge of American history is also part of being American.

Nice work, Mr. President, tweeting that the four progressive congresswomen should “go back’’ to their original country and fix their governments.

Three of these congresswomen should have no problem fulfilling this request, since they are already here in their “original country.” Think of the money they’ll save on plane fare.

Trump would do well to follow the adage: “Make sure brain is engaged before putting mouth in gear.’’

Trump tweeted to four anti-American congresswomen that, before telling us how “the greatest and most powerful nation on earth” is to be run, why don’t they go back and help fix the “corrupt and inept” places from which they came.

That one paragraph explains why Trump got elected. If you still don’t get it, you must be either daft or a Democrat.

It’s a sad day when our president stoops so low as to publicly tell four women of color who are members of Congress to “go back to where you came from.” You don’t have to be a person of color to be offended by this distasteful behavior.

We have had great presidents in our country, both Republican and Democrat, who have always stood for the ideals that our country was founded upon. Unfortunately, we now have a racist president who cares nothing about our country’s foundation of fairness and inclusion.

Trump tweeted callous and highly insensitive remarks that were perhaps racist. However, members of “the Squad” do espouse socialist views, not realizing the failure of socialist countries is among the many reasons why so many people are flooding our borders.

It’s ironic and amazing that this nation successfully voted these four, who have made highly incendiary remarks as well, into the House.

While Trump’s “go back” retort is not racist by dictionary definition, the xenophobic phrase causes the same harm.

It has been used for decades in reaction to new immigrants. Trump managed to destroy a wellknown axiom: Never interfere when your opponents are in the process of destroying each other.
