Dress-up escape foiled

It’s that moment when “Freaky Friday” and “Tootsie” met “The Great Escape.”

A Brazilian gang leader tried to flee from a high-security prison by dressing up as his teenage daughter — even planning to leave her behind in jail, according to authorities.

Clauvino da Silva, 42, pretended to be a 19-year-old girl Saturday to walk out of the front door of Rio’s Gericinó prison, with smooth skin, long black hair and a cute pink T-shirt featuring a design of doughnuts and hearts.

The convicted drug dealer’s get-up was so convincing that prison staff stopped him at the end of visiting time only because he started acting nervously, according to authorities.

After being stopped, da Silva was filmed standing awkwardly with his hands behind his back as his ruse was slowly exposed, starting with officials removing his glasses and a long black wig.

The tattooed inmate, known as “Shorty,” then removed his shirt, revealing a black bra underneath — and a silicon mask giving him a smooth complexion.

Now, wearing only tight jeans, he finally pulled off the mask, showing short-cropped hair, wrinkles and other features befitting a 42-year-old man.

Da Silva had planned to leave his daughter inside the jail in the western part of Rio de Janeiro, officials say. Police are looking into whether she was an accomplice.

A pregnant woman who was able to avoid being searched is also being investigated for possibly smuggling the outfit into the prison, according to local media.

Authorities say da Silva was part of the leadership of the Red Command, one of Brazil’ s most powerful criminal gangs, which controlled drug trafficking in a large part of Rio.

He was transferred to a special unit of a maximum-security prison and will face disciplinary sanctions for the failed escape bid, officials said.
