ETC.: Olympian Lochte victorious in return from ban

-

Ryan Lochte won the 200-meter individual medley at the U.S. national championships in Stanford, Calif., fresh off a 14-month ban for receiving an infusion of vitamin B-12 above the allowable limit.

The 12-time Olympic medalist touched in 1 minute, 57.76 seconds — 1.07 ahead of runner-up Shaine Casas — to earn his first national title since 2014.

It was the lone victory and only final of the five-day meet for Lochte, 35, who caused an international incident at the 2016 Rio Olympics by falsely claiming he was robbed at gunpoint at a gas station.

Veteran wide receiver Jordy Nelson is retiring. The 34-year-old Nelson played in Green Bay from 2008-17 before spending last season with the Raiders.

Courtney Williams scored a season-high 28 points and the Connecticut Sun won their seventh straight game, beating the Liberty 94-79 in White Plains. Tina Charles had 20 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Liberty (8-13).

Chase Elliott won the NASCAR Cup race at Watkins Glen International for the second straight time, holding off Martin Truex Jr. just like he did a year ago. Denny Hamlin was third, Erik Jones fourth and Ryan

Blaney fifth after starting from the rear of the field. In Greensboro, N.C., J.T. Poston won the Wyndham Championship for his first PGA Tour title, shooting an 8-under 62 for a one-stroke victory.

In Milton Keynes, England, 20-year-old Hinako Shibuno won the Women’s British Open in her major championship debut, holing an 18-foot birdie putt on the final hole for a one-stroke victory over Lizette Salas.
