Gregorius returns to lineup

Didi Gregorius returned to the lineup for Sunday’s series finale against the Red Sox after missing the previous three games with a finger injury on his left hand.

He singled in the first inning of the Yankees’ 7-4 win and had no issues defensively.

Gregorius, who had been out since suffering a strain between his ring and pinkie fingers while fielding a ground ball in Wednesday’s win over the Diamondbacks, took grounders and batting practice in between Saturday’s daynight doubleheader against Boston, and reported no discomfort.

Boone had considered using Gregorius during Saturday’s nightcap, but opted to rest the shortstop another 24 hours.

“My understanding is, when he went out and took ground balls and everything in between games, all went well,” Boone said before the game. “When I talked to him [Saturday] night, he felt pretty good about where he was at. We’ll be mindful of it, we’ll watch him closely, but we feel like he’s in a good spot.”

After undergoing Tommy John surgery in October, Gregorius had been limited to just 39 games this season. Entering Sunday, he was 1-for-14 in his previous four games.

Gary Sanchez is expected to play in some minor league rehab games this week and should be back with the team “at some point on the weekend in Toronto,” according to Boone.

Sanchez has been out since July 24 with a left groin strain.

Luis Severino and Dellin Betances aren’t the only arms the Yankees are waiting on for their stretch run after not making any additions before last week’s trade deadline.

There’s also Deivi Garcia, who has so far struggled since being promoted to Triple-A Scranton/ Wilkes-Barre, as well as Jonathan

Loaisiga, who made a rehab start — and his first for SWB — on Sunday. The right-hander, coming back from a right shoulder strain, sat in the mid- to high-90s in his outing against Lehigh Valley. He also allowed three runs in just two-thirds of an inning before being pulled after 32 pitches.
