An Insult to NY’s Finest: Thrive’s ‘Blue Lives’ Snub
THE ISSUE: ThriveNYC’s decision to back out of a mental-health event co-sponsored by Blue Lives Matter.
I was sickened by the withdrawal of Chirlane McCray’s ThriveNYC program from the planned mental-health seminar for first responders because the “Blue Lives Matter” was co-sponsoring it. This happened alongside the news about the ninth suicide of an NYPD officer this year (“So blue lives don’t matter?” Aug. 15).
Of course, Mayor de Blasio’s disrespect for his NYPD officers has infected the entire city structure. The dousing of police and throwing food at them has somehow become permissible.
When our law-enforcement officers lose their ability to do their jobs, our city is in serious trouble. Helen Freedman Manhattan
If cops haven’t recognized the totally irreverent behavior of de Blasio and McCray at this point, obviously they’ve been hoodwinked.
A staff member at ThriveNYC had the audacity to back out of a seminar because it was co-sponsored by a procop group.
This answered plenty of questions about the exodus of New Yorkers to the Sunshine State. Kevin Judge Naples, Fla. It’s time for New York City and the mayor to show solid support and appreciation for the very difficult and dangerous work of New York’s Finest.
Police work is no different from military service. It’s service to preserve the rule of law and to protect our fragile democracy and our citizens. Thomas Birnbaum Manhattan
How disgusting for ThriveNYC to pull out of an event co-sponsored by Blue Lives Matter. And then the clueless de Blasio actually told cops that ThriveNYC is there to help them. Carol Meltzer Manhattan
This is an indication that McCray doesn’t care about the well-being of our police officers — with nine dead already due to suicide this year. Shameless. Morgan Cross Staten Island
