Joe’s Debate Struggle: A Sign of Mental Decline?
THE ISSUE: Joe Biden’s apparent difficulty communicating during the third Democratic debate.
Joe Biden was all over the place during the recent Democratic debate, speaking in riddles, sentence fragments and nonsequiturs (“There he Joes again,” Sept. 13).
During one answer, it looked like he almost lost his teeth. He suggested that no one should be in jail for a nonviolent crime, that social workers should teach poor people how to parent and keeping a record player on at night so kids can “hear words.”
If Democrats truly loved Biden, they’d stop parading this seemingly senile man in public and instead find him a nice assisted-living home and maybe buy him some really cool long-playing records and a new full upper. Pete McArdle Yorktown Heights
Regarding the recent cover featuring Joe Biden, can The Post explain why it’s not instead focused on the current occupant of the White House?
The president’s speech patterns are characterized by aphasia, inability to get basic facts right, utterly vacuous boasting and selfpuffery, run-on sentences and general nonsense, wild confabulation as well as repetition of things he has literally just said, gratuitous rudeness and vulgarity, mangling names of his own cabinet members or people sitting right next to him.
Biden is clearly an old man who’s operating below his peak mental performance, and it puts his qualifications in question, but The Post is comparing apples and oranges. Or, apples and an orange man. Eric Hagemann Brooklyn
I watched the third Democratic debate for over two hours.
Bernie Sanders looked and spoke like he’s ready for a straitjacket. Elizabeth Warren was her hyperactive self, flailing her arms and shaking her head. Cory Booker said, “We know Trump is a racist.” No one disagreed.
Biden looked good for the first time. He spoke with energy and tangled with Sanders over Medicare for All. Biden didn’t make any gaffes but, at one point, Julian Castro said that Biden said the opposite of what he said two minutes before.
The Democratic Party should change its name to the Demented Party. Imelda de Martin Red Bank, NJ
