McNeil’s slump could spell doom

Jeff McNeil was lost for words following the Mets’ 3-2 loss to the Dodgers on Sunday night.

He sat motionless in front of his locker, still dressed in his uniform, while the rest of his teammates got a head start on packing for their series in Colorado.

His face revealed just how draining the series-finale loss was, and how frustrating it was to go 0-for-11 over the past three games.

“Just focus on the next atbat, all you can do,” McNeil told The Post.

It goes without saying McNeil has been an integral part of the Mets’ success this season. But his quiet bat through one of the most important series of the season showed just how much his team — which is fighting tooth and nail to climb from now four games back of a wild-card spot — need his offensive contributions.

It was just the second time this season McNeil, who went 0-for-3 Sunday, went three consecutive games without a hit.

“[Pete Alonso and McNeil] have done it for us all year,” manager Mickey Callaway said after the loss. “It’s kind of like [Justin] Wilson and [Seth] Lugo, they’re going to have rough goes of it. It’s never their fault. It’s never anybody’s fault.

“It’s not disappointing. We need them to get going, just like others.”

McNeil has made himself into one of the Mets’ most important bats. And their playoff hopes are dependent, in part, on his ability to shake off his current hitless streak.

“We win and lose as a team,” Callaway said. “When they’re carrying us, we win as a team and when we’re trying to carry them, when they’re struggling, we lose as a team if that happens.”
