REPORT CARD
OFFENSE
As bland as turkey on white bread. Great first drive and then a whole lot of nothing. More slop on third down (3-of12 conversions) and more avoidance of the end zone.
Eli Manning (26-of-45, 250 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs) made the routine throws and not much else. Saquon Barkley (18-107) needs to be more of a factor in the passing game (3-28) and it is important he not get too frustrated by all this losing. The best fill-in receiver was TJ
Jones. Sterling Shepard, get well soon.
F DEFENSE
This unit allowed touchdowns on three consecutive firsthalf series, shredded like cheap paper towels. Rookie CB DeAndre Baker had the sort of performance that gets guys benched, even if they are first-round picks. Pressure was better (three sacks) but not nearly good enough. Bills had three rushing TDs, a sign they were in control at the line of scrimmage. Two games in, this is a really bad group. Only thing keeping this from being an ‘F’ is it was a better showing in the second half.
D SPECIAL TEAMS
Aldrick Rosas’ field-goal attempt went wide left from 48 yards in the second quarter, ending his streak of 20 consecutive made field goals. After a 58-yard punt by Riley
Dixon, Antonio Hamilton made a great play on punt coverage, flipping the ball behind his head to keep it out of the end zone and Cody Core downed it at the Buffalo 2-yard line. TJ Jones had a 60-yard punt return to provide a brief (very brief) spark late in the second quarter.
B COACHING
Pat Shurmur is 0-2, again, and needs to find a way to stop the bleeding before this body is cold and buried. He clearly has something going with his offensive script to start these games, but after that, not so much. The challenges of working with youth in the secondary is real, but coordinator James Bettcher is making it look impossible.
