Defiant Dems still say impeach

- By MARISA SCHULTZ

Despite The New York Times admitting that it removed a key detail in its Brett Kavanaugh accuser piece, 2020 Democrats aren’t retracting their calls for impeachment of the newest Supreme Court justice.

At least six Democratic presidential candidates — Sen. Kamala Harris, Sen. Elizabeth Warren, Sen. Cory Booker, former San Antonio Mayor Julian Castro, South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg and former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke — immediately called for Kavanaugh’s impeachment following the Sunday Times article that mentions another graphic sexual-misconduct allegation against the justice.

The Times had to update the story with a lengthy editor’s note because the story failed to tell readers the alleged victim didn’t remember the incident with Kavanaugh.

But so far none of the 2020 hopefuls has taken down tweets they made calling for Kavanaugh’s impeachment. The Post also reached out to all six campaigns to see if they’d like to update their calls for impeachment. By Tuesday evening, none had responded, although Warren had earlier renewed her calls for an investigation into Kavanaugh.

“Right now Brett Kavanaugh has been accused of lying to Congress during his confirmation hearings,” Warren told reporters. “So that means we should have an investigation into it. And the way to do that is through an impeachment proceeding.”

Harris, a former prosecutor, doubled down on Monday in an interview on NPR’s Morning Edition, saying: “The fact that someone does not remember the details of an incident doesn’t mean that there’s lack of evidence if there are other witnesses who can establish that the fact occurred.”
