Back for Brett Kavanaugh: Dems’ Sex-Smear Sequel

THE ISSUE: The New York Times’ story on new unsubstantiated allegations against Justice Kavanaugh.

-

The Democratic Party is clearly running on empty with this latest, weak, flailing attempt to unseat Brett Kavanaugh (“Top Dems Need To Take It Back,” Editorial, Sept. 17).

If at first you don’t succeed with sexual-misconduct allegations: Try, try again.

As with the previous allegations, this one is based on cotton-candy evidence. It makes one wonder if Ruth Bader Ginsburg is failing faster than expected, so they are reloading their popguns to unseat Kavanaugh. If this is the best they can do, he’ll be around for a long time. James Terminiello Mount Laurel, NJ

Democratic presidential candidates Cory Booker, Julian Castro, Kamala Harris, Beto O’Rourke and Elizabeth Warren have stated that Justice Kavanaugh should be impeached because of supposed allegations made by a woman who, according to a correction made in The Times, “declined to be interviewed and friends say that she does not recall the incident.”

If these politicians do not believe that the norms of procedure protecting the essential rights of defendants cannot be transgressed, but instead think that an unproven accusation should result in punishment, they should not be running for president. Julia Lutch Davis, Calif.

What happened to the Democratic Party? Democrats hate the president because he won over their candidate. They hounded Kavanaugh during his confirmation, only to find out the allegations weren’t proven.

Now the almighty New York Times comes out with another allegation against Kavanaugh, and before anyone had time to confirm or deny this story, some of the 2020 candidates were in front of the cameras calling for his impeachment.

Couldn’t they wait until someone actually checked this story? As it turns out, the story was unproven, and, as usual, we probably won’t get an apology from these candidates.

They will say anything to make themselves appear to be the ideal person for the job. After this, who would want to vote for them? Sam King Manhattan

Since “collusion” didn’t work, the Democrats new rallying cry is “impeach.” Impeach Trump; impeach Kavanaugh. Neither will work.

And to see Sens. Warren and Harris braying this impeachment mantra is disgusting. Democrats are pathetic. Walter Goldeski East Brunswick, NJ

Just when you think the media can’t damage themselves further, along comes this hit job on Kavanaugh.

From Times Executive Editor Dean Baquet’s eschewing fair and impartial reporting in favor of openly strategizing against the Trump administration to this latest embarrassment, the media have, by and large, shown utter contempt for objective journalism as well as the American public.

While we expect partisanship from politicians of all stripes, to have the media acting as a propaganda arm for one side is truly dangerous. David Perez Brooklyn

Why are the other eight Supreme Court justices so silent regarding these vile smears against a colleague?

This could happen to any one of them or a future Supreme Court nominee. Don’t they see that this is a blatant personal attack on Kavanaugh, simply because he was appointed by Trump?

Even the so-called “liberal” justices need to speak out against this outrageous assault on the judicial branch. Joe Nugent Staten Island

Rich Lowry is right that the continued attacks on Justice Kavanaugh are really about intimidation and setting up talking points on which to attack him if he dares to vote to overturn Roe v. Wade (“A Warning to Kavanaugh,” PostOpinion, Sept. 17).

These allegations that he sexually assaulted women at college parties are as phony as a threedollar bill, but what they’re really about is forcing the court to give up its independence and do the bidding of Democrats.

Having lost the party’s dominance of the court through the political process, they’re now using any means available — whether fair or foul — to get it back. Steve Heitner Post Jefferson Station
