Dems’ Debate Déjà Vu: A Rehash of Old Ideas

-

We’ve now suffered through a fourth Democratic debate. It’s become Groundhog Day (“Got a plan — hit Liz hard,” Oct. 16).

What’s changed since the first debate, other than who’s leading in the polls and therefore has a target on his/her back?

We hear the same questions from tedious, boring moderators with the same, tired answers. Nothing has changed.

The vast majority of voters know whom they’ll back. Each successive debate draws fewer viewers. It’s a circular firing squad.

I watched the Democratic debate, and all the candidates have differing ideas, but they agree that they hate President Trump.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren talked and talked, but she couldn’t say how she would pay for Medicare for All. Sen. Bernie Sanders said he would raise taxes. Joe Biden denied he or his son did anything wrong.

Sen. Kamala Harris went on and on about abortion. Rep. Beto O’Rourke couldn’t answer what he would do about gun violence. Tom Steyer brought up the old chestnut: climate change.

It was the same old stuff. None of them has any charisma.

The biggest loser in the Democratic debate was Joe Biden, who seemed to be the least qualified and most out-of-it candidate.

Even the candidates I don’t like, such as Amy Klobuchar, Kamala Harris and Julian Castro, were far superior to Joe in every way. He made useless billionaire Tom Steyer look like a better candidate than Biden.

The second biggest loser of the debate was the viewer, because three hours is too long.

Klobuchar’s opening statement at the debates, that Trump’s policies are not making America great again, wasn’t just good political theater: It’s true.

How is Trump’s relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin making America great? How are Trump’s tax cuts for the ultra-wealthy, adding trillions to the national debt, making America great? How is Trump’s disastrous retreat in Syria making America great?

We live in the greatest nation on earth. In my opinion, Klobuchar is the Democrat best suited to lead America into 2020 and beyond. We need her wisdom and experience in the White House.
