Need a pair of hearing aids – for free?

-

Dear Readers: Thanks to my column about the difficulty and cost of obtaining hearing aids, a hearing aid company called Lively contacted me to say it is willing to give away three pairs.

It says this will be at no cost at all, even though the devices usually go for $1,650 a pair. It will also give you a hearing test for free. Why? Lively’s representatives contacted me after I recently wrote about the cost of hearing aids and how Medicare didn’t cover them. Lively says its hearing aids are awesome.

So I said “prove it” by giving some away. It agreed on three pairs. Here is what Dr. Christina Callahan, head of clinical audiology at Lively, says about the problem:

“Far too many Americans don’t know anything about hearing health until it’s too late. In fact, on average, people with hearing loss wait seven years before seeking help, according to the Center for Hearing and Communication. As always, education is the key to raising awareness, and taking the time to educate yourself or a loved one about caring for your hearing health could drastically improve your life, as well as the lives of those around you.”

So what to do to try to score one of those pairs? Prove to Lively you need them and can’t afford them. How? Send an e-mail to me at John.Crudele@nypost.com if you are interested and think you’ll qualify. I’ll pass it along to Lively.

I’ll keep accepting e-mails until the three hearing aids are given away. And if Lively selects you, please let me know what you think of the hearing aids.

We just hope this will also spur other hearing aid companies to want to join in the fun.

Hear’s to Lively.
