Tua hurt in Tide win

With Tua Tagovailoa hurt, No. 1 Alabama turned to its defense and Najee Harris to pull out a 35-13 victory over Tennessee on Saturday night in Tuscaloosa, Ala.

The Crimson Tide (7-0, 4-0 SEC) faced their first test of the season without last season’s Heisman Trophy runner-up, but Harris ran for 105 yards and two touchdowns. Both Tagovailoa and Tennessee QB Brian Maurer left before halftime, and the Volunteers (2-5, 1-3) put up a fight.

Tagovailoa left with an ankle injury in the second quarter and coach Nick Saban said he is likely to miss the next game against Arkansas. He called time out before the play clock ran out after a sack.

“I didn’t even know he was hurt,” Saban said. “He said he felt like he twisted his ankle.”

LSU 36, Mississipp­i St. 13

In Starkville, Miss., Joe Burrow threw for 327 yards and four touchdowns to break the LSU season record with 29 TD passes as the No. 2 Tigers (7-0, 3-0 SEC) rolled to 415 total yards in beating Mississipp­i State (3-4, 1-3).

Clemson 45, Louisville 10

In Louisville, Ky., Trevor Lawrence overcame two early intercepti­ons to throw three touchdown passes and No. 3 Clemson (7-0, 5-0 ACC) routed Louisville (4-3, 2-2) for its 22nd consecutiv­e win.

Penn St. 28, Michigan 21

In University Park, Pa., Sean Clifford threw three touchdown passes and ran for another score to lead seventh-ranked Penn State (7-0, 4-0 Big Ten) over No. 16 Michigan (5-2, 3-2).

Florida 38, South Carolina 27

In Columbia, S.C., Kyle Trask threw for a career-high four touchdowns, three in the fourth quarter, to help No. 9 Florida (7-1, 4-1 SEC) bounce back from its loss at LSU and outlast South Carolina (3-4, 2-3) on a soggy field after Tropical Storm Nestor.

Georgia 21, Kentucky 0

In Athens, Ga., D’Andre Swift ran for 179 yards and two scores, and his 39-yard touchdown run in the third quarter snapped a scoreless tie as No. 10 Georgia (6-1, 3-1 SEC) overcame a slow start to beat Kentucky (3-4, 1-4).

Auburn 51, Arkansas 10

In Fayettevil­le, Ark., Bo Nix passed for three touchdowns and ran for another as No. 11 Auburn (6-1, 3-1 SEC) routed Arkansas (2-5, 0-4) as the quarterbac­k turned a close game into a blowout by throwing for two TDs in a span of 22 seconds in the third quarter.

Oregon 35, Washington 31

In Seattle, Justin Herbert hit Jaylon Redd for a 5-yard touchdown with 5:10 left, the last of his four TD passes, and No. 12 Oregon (6-1, 4-0 Pac-12) rallied from a 14point deficit to beat No. 25 Washington (5-3, 2-3).

Utah 21, Arizona St. 3

In Salt Lake City, Zack Moss reached 3,264 career rushing yards to break the Utah record and scored two touchdowns as the No. 13 Utes (6-1, 3-1 Pac-12) defeated No. 17 Arizona State (5-2, 2-2).

Texas 50, Kansas 48

In Austin, Texas, Sam Ehlinger passed for 399 yards and four touchdowns, Cameron Dicker made a 33-yard field goal as time expired and No. 15 Texas (5-2, 3-1 Big 12) survived Kansas’ upset bid after the teams exchanged six TDs in the fourth quarter. Kansas (2-5, 0-4) took a 48-47 lead on Carter Stanley’s 2point conversion pass to Daylon Charlot with 1:11 to play.

Appalachia­n St. 52, Louisiana-Monroe 7

In Boone, N.C., Zac Thomas threw for 214 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score and No. 24 Appalachia­n State (6-0, 3-0 Sun Belt) beat LouisianaM­onroe (3-4, 2-1) for the Mountainee­rs’ first victory as a Top 25 team.
