Fordham falls in overtime thriller to Lehigh

Backup QB Addison Shoup threw a short touchdown pass to Devon Bibbens in overtime, his only completion of the day, giving Lehigh a 30-27 win over Fordham on Saturday in The Bronx.

The Mountain Hawks (3-3, 2-0 Patriot League) trailed 27-24 in the extra period when kicker Austin Henning booted a 25-yard field goal to tie it but was roughed up by Fordham on the play. The resulting penalty gave Lehigh a first-and-goal on the 4-yard line and Shoup took the opportunit­y to roll right and hit a wide open Bibbens in the end zone for the winning score.

Zaythan Hill’s 94-yard touchdown run midway through the fourth quarter gave Lehigh a 24-17 edge but Fordham’s Trey Sneed answered for the Rams (3-5, 1-1) with a 40-yard scoring run to even it 24-all with 7:25 remaining. That score held as both defenses stiffened, forcing overtime.

Zach Davis led the Rams with 185 yards rushing and a touchdown. Sneed added 96 rushing yards.

Monmouth 49, Gardner-Webb 28

In West Long Branch, N.J., Kenji Bahar threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score as Monmouth (5-2, 2-0 Big South) rolled past Gardner-Webb (3-4, 1-1).

Bahar was 20-of-26 passing for 327 yards for the Hawks. Pete Guerriero ran for 186 yards and two touchdowns and Devell Jones also rushed for a pair of scores as Monmouth outgained the Runnin’ Bulldogs 599-360 yards.

Columbia 44, Penn 6

In Manhattan, Ty Lenhart accounted for a personal-best three touchdowns — running for two and passing for another — and Columbia (2-3, 1-1 Ivy League) smothered Pennsylvan­ia (2-3, 0-2). Columbia had a 413-232 edge in total yardage and made 24 first downs.

Minnesota 42, Rutgers 7

In Piscataway, N.J., Rodney Smith ran for 111 yards and two touchdowns and No. 20 Minnesota improved to 7-0 (4-0 Big Ten) for the first time since winning the national title in 1960. Rutgers (1-6, 0-5) avoided its fourth shutout in a Big Ten game this season when Kay’Ron Adams scored on a 5-yard run with 5:33 to play.

Houston 24, Connecticu­t 17

In East Hartford, Conn., freshman Logan Holgorsen threw for 123 yards and a touchdown in his first start and the Cougars (3-4, 1-2 AAC) held off Connscticu­t (1-6, 0-4). Freshman Jack Zergiotis threw for 270 yards and two TDs for UConn.

St. Francis (Pa.) 30, Long Island 0

In Jason Brown threw three touchdowns to different receivers and visiting St. Francis (Pa.) dominated. Clay Beathard threw for 157 yards for Long Island (0-6, 0-5).

Princeton 65, Brown 22

In Providence, R.I., Kevin Davidson threw for 379 yards and five touchdowns as Princeton (5-0, 2-0 Ivy League) rolled over Brown (1-4, 0-2).

Dartmouth 49, Marist 7

In Poughkeeps­ie, Caylin Parker ran for two touchdowns and Connor Rempel caught a pair of scoring passes as undefeated Dartmouth (5-0) rolled past Marist (1-5). Matt Edwards got the Red Foxes on the board with a 16-yardTD pass to Sean Gaffney with 2:53 remaining in the game.

Robert Morris 21, Wagner 13

In Staten Island, Caleb Lewis threw for a touchdown, Terrence Stephens Jr. ran for one, and Robert Morris (3-4, 2-0 NEC) rallied to win. Christian Alexander-Stevens threw for 213 yards and a TD for Wagner (1-6, 1-1).
