Groin injury likely to sit Mosley again

- By ZACH BRAZILLER

The Jets were without C.J. Mosley for four games, and it appears likely they’ll be without their standout inside linebacker some more.

Mosley returned from a groin injury against the Patriots on Monday night, but didn’t look like himself. He wasn’t moving around well in the game and Jets doctors are still doing a “deep dive” into potential other health issues that have arisen.

“They’re still trying to evaluate and going through a deeper dive,” coach Adam Gase said on Thursday. “They’re still doing everything they can to get some answers.”

Gase believes the Jets will be able to offer some clarity by Friday on Mosley, who has yet to practice this week. When asked if he will be out long term, Gase said he was unsure.

The NFL Players Association released a statement on Thursday in support of Jets offensive guard Kelechi Osemele, who has clashed with the team over a shoulder injury he believes needs surgery but the Jets do not.

“Our union supports every player’s right to a second medical opinion, workers’ compensation and the best medical care,” the statement read. “It is not appropriate or ethical for employers in any line of work to dictate the medical care and treatment of any employee. We are considering all options to protect Kelechi Osemele, as we would for any of our members.”

Osemele said on Wednesday three doctors believe he needs surgery for a torn labrum. But the team has yet to approve it. The Jets began fining him last week for conduct detrimental to the team after he refused to practice. Osemele has filed a grievance against the Jets in response.

Running back Le’Veon Bell caught just one pass on four targets for 6 yards in the Monday night loss. He expects to be more involved through the air against the Jaguars on Sunday with a few more free releases out of the backfield and opportunities being split out wide as a receiver.

“Getting more involved in the passing game would be a huge help,” Bell said. “I think last game it just was unfortunate the way the game was going. We couldn’t really get into our offense, because we were playing from behind.”

WR Jamison Crowder was added to the injury list Thursday with a knee injury. He was limited in practice, as was C Ryan Kalil (elbow/shoulder), who didn’t practice Wednesday. LT Kelvin Beachum (ankle), RB Trenton Cannon (foot/ ankle) and LB Albert McLellan (concussion) remained out. OG Brian Winters (shoulder/knee), LB Neville Hewitt (neck/ knee), DT Steve McLendon (hamstring), TE Chris Herndon (hamstring), WRs Demaryius Thomas (hamstring) and Braxton Berrios (hamstring), and DL Henry Anderson (shoulder) remained limited.
