Healthier by the day, Saquon hoping to avoid a Snacks attack Sunday

ALARGE, wide-body of a man will be waiting in ambush Sunday for Saquon Barkley. An imposing, hungry man who likes to eat running backs in the backfield.

Arguably the game’s best run-stopper versus arguably the game’s best running back.

“I know personally he wanted to get his hands on me since I got here last year, so he’s gonna actually get that chance,” Barkley said, and smiled.

Damon “Snacks” Harrison will get his chance because Giants GM Dave Gettleman unloaded him for a fifth-round pick at last year’s trade deadline. Harrison and Barkley were Giants together for seven games.

“He said something like in the beginning when I first got here that he can’t wait to hit my you-know-what,” Barkley said. “He always used to joke around here and on Twitter and stuff like that.

“But he’s Snacks, he’s a great dude. When he was here, he was someone that I was able to go to and talk to for advice, just how to handle yourself throughout your career, and he’s been playing at a high level for a very long time and wellrespected, so real excited to get to go play against a guy like that.”

Barkley was a full practice participant on Thursday and told The Post he expects to be 100 percent for his second game since suffering his high ankle sprain.

Harrison has been battling a groin injury and has been disappointed in his own play. The Lions are 28th against the run (139.2 yards).

The soreness Barkley endures on Monday? Won’t be there on Sunday.

“I don’t expect that at all,” Barkley said. “Your bodyy reacts differently on game day, especially when you’re actually out there, you have adrenaline, your mind just focuses on different things and how to fight through anything if there is any pain. I think we’re doing a really good job so far throughout the week not only on the practice field but in the training room with rehabbing it.

“I’m excited for this week to be able to go out there and get an opportunity to play with my brothers.”

Barkley’s post-high ankle sprain work will require extra monitoring, and occasional rest.

“It’s getting to that point where it’s a grind part of the season, so everyone probably needs it,” Barkley said. “If that’s a case where they believe I need it, I’m gonna do whatever it takes.”

That’s the nature of this beast. An indomitable will. Mind over matter. He limped off against the Cardinals. But you knew he was coming back.

“That happens when you have a high ankle sprain, there’s gonna be times where you feel a little bit of pain,” Barkley said. “But you also gotta be a man and know where you’re able to toughen up at. I think in that spot or those areas I’m able to.”

He suffered a deep thigh bruise on the first play of one game at Penn State and played on.

“Hard to walk on it,” Barkley said. “I don’t know, sometimes, especially in a moment like that — I couldn’t practice for like a week or two after, because we were getting prepared for the Rose Bowl. But I was able to fight it out and finish the game.

“If I’m able to fight for my teammates, why not do it?”

Barkley was targeted only five times in the passing game last Sunday, and with Daniel Jones pressing to get the ball out of his hands quicker to avoid sacks, it would be a good idea to check the ball down to Barkley.

“When Eli [Manning] would do that people would say, ‘Oh he don’t take enough shots.’ Now I guess we’re taking more shots and we’re not throwing to the check-down more, people are like, ‘We need to throw it down to the check-down more.’ It’s one of those positions where you’re not gonna win,” Barkley said.

Barkley caught 91 passes as a rookie, for a 7.9-yard average and four touchdowns on 121 targets. He has 14 catches for a 5.9-yard average this season on 23 targets.

Barkley admittedly wasn’t himself in his return last week from his agonizing threegame absence.

“Only thing I felt personally in the beginning I think I tried to do a little too much, went back to like my college habits, my old habits a little bit,” he said. “But I guess that just was more excitement. But as the game went down, I felt like I settled down.”

Even Snacks Harrison better be careful what he wishes for.
