Ditching the Empire State: Trump’s Flight to Florida

THE ISSUE: President Trump’s tweet announcing that he’s making Florida his state of residence.

-

It’s long overdue that President Trump finally moved to Florida, given how badly treated he was in New York by both voters and, in his words, “political leaders of both the city and the state” (“NYC Ya!” Nov. 1).

I am sure Florida would be very welcoming to the president.

Gov. Cuomo’s statement, “Good riddance,” proves exactly Trump’s point and shows why anyone who is not a Democrat wants to leave the state of New York. Anyone who can afford to move out of New York will want to move out because of the failed leftist policies.

As long as New York’s liberals and welfare voters continue to elect biased partisans like Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio, the future is in Florida and not in New York. Andrew Delaney Jamaica Estates

The sour-grapes spewing from our governor and Mayor de Blasio speaks volumes. How dare “The Donald” pull up stakes in the rapidly rotting Apple for sunnier climates down south.

Economists predicted all of this as these wasteful states carried out their vengeful “tax the rich” policies.

Those who can afford to have been fleeing in droves for their own financial health, leaving the heavily burdened middle class to muddle on through. Other wealthy individuals are soon to follow. I myself am seriously considering waving goodbye. Robert Lobenstein Brooklyn

Trump has many buildings and many employees at these buildings who pay taxes. He pays a lot to the state and city. His leaving New York is a good example for all of us. It’s time to leave this welfare state.

Almost 300 people a day leave New York. Pretty soon, it’ll just be freeloaders.

And how about balancing the budget? New York and the other La La state, California, have the highest budget deficits in the country. New York is writing checks it can’t cash. And spending money it doesn’t have to buy votes. Pathetic governance. Michael Castagna Brooklyn

How funny that Trump says he is leaving New York due to high taxes. I don’t think Trump pays his taxes. This is just Donald’s lie of the day.

I believe that the real reason Donald is leaving is that he knows he is hated here in his hometown. If he wants to prove me wrong, let him show his tax returns. Kreg Ramone Manhattan
