‘Impeach’ improves Don’s polls

- Mark Moore

He really is the Teflon Don. Despite weeks of testimony in the House impeachment inquiry, the outlook for President Trump winning a second term hasn’t taken a hit — and may have actually improved, according to polls released on Wednesday.

Forty-two percent of registered voters say Trump should be reelected in 2020, the best response yet for the president since the Monmouth University Poll started asking the question a year ago.

The percentage of voters saying Trump should get another term has hovered between 37 and 39 percent, until cracking 40 percent for the first time this month.

The majority of voters — 55 percent — say it’s time for a new president, down from a high of 60 percent in May.

Meanwhile, a Politico/Morning Consult survey showed that 56 percent of voters expect Trump be re-elected next November — including 35 percent of Democrats and 51 percent of independents.

Among Republicans, 85 percent agreed that Trump would get another four years.

And enthusiasm is high among voters to turn out on Election Day 2020, with 81 percent saying they are “very likely,” and 11 percent opting for “somewhat likely.”

In contrast, 5 percent said they are “not too motivated” to vote and 3 percent said they are “not motivated at all.”

Asked if Trump was on their minds when they thought about the 2020 vote, 60 percent said “a lot/some,” 8 percent said “not much” and 32 percent said “not at all.”
