A Burning 2020 Question: Could Bloomy Beat Trump?
According to David Marcus, “All the gold in Fort Knox could not get Mike Bloomberg elected president,” and “the man’s entire raison d’être is an anti-fun agenda that slowly sucks the joy out of life and replaces it with cogs-turning wheels in the factory of progress” (“2020 watch: Bloomberg Doesn’t Stand a Chance,” Fast Takes, Nov. 9)
Thus, the Post’s editorial gives him way too much credibility as a presidential candidate (“Give It a Chance, Mike,” Editorial, Nov. 9). He possesses no real assets which would qualify him to be our commander-in-chief.
He says he’s entering the race because he has no confidence in the current field of Democratic candidates. He unwittingly paid the president the ultimate compliment by confirming Trump will win again in 2020. JJ Crovatto Ramsey, NJ
With Bloomberg throwing his hat in the ring for president, the problem for Democrats is that they will potentially have two leading contenders who aren’t really Democrats.
Sen. Bernie Sanders is an independent, and
Bloomberg is a former Republican and centrist.
And they are septuagenarians to boot — as Bloomberg is 77 while Sanders is 78 with a heart condition, having suffered a recent heart attack.
Are aging candidates like this the best Democrats can do against Trump? If so, they are in deep trouble. Kenneth Zimmerman Huntington Beach, Calif.
New York City’s disgraceful mayor pontificated that Bloomberg should not run for president because he’s not progressive enough. (“Blasio Blasts Bloomy,” Nov. 12)
Well, Mayor de Blasio is off-the-charts progressive and when he was in la-la land running for president, his rating was virtually zero. Manny Martin Manhattan
Bloomberg was a good mayor for New York City if you ignore the nanny state and bike lanes he instituted. Not to mention his being out of town more than de Blasio.
But I don’t think he is capable of beating Trump. His anti-gun stance and his nanny-state instincts rule him out.

The best thing Bloomberg can do for the Democrats is to run for mayor of New York City again.
