HOOPS: Oregon tops Wiseman, Memphis

In Denver, Trae Young scored 15 of his season-high 42 points in the fourth quarter and added 11 assists to lead the Hawks over the Nuggets 125-121.

In Phoenix, Anthony Davis had 24 points and 12 rebounds, Kyle Kuzma added 23 points and the Lakers beat the Suns 123-115.

In Philadelph­ia, Joel Embiid scored 27 points, including the go-ahead dunk with 13.2 seconds remaining, and the Sixers held Cleveland without a point for the final 3 ¹ /2 minutes in a 98-97 win over the Cavaliers.

In Indianapol­is, T.J. Warren scored 11 of his 23 points in the third quarter to lead the Pacers over the Thunder 111-85.

BASEBALL: Wainwright re-ups with Cards

The Cardinals and Adam Wainwright agreed to a contract for the 2020 season, increasing the likelihood the veteran pitcher finishes his career with the only major league team for which he has ever played. The deal, announced Tuesday, is for $5 million plus up to $5 million in incentives, The Athletic reported.

Tony La Russa was hired by the Angels as senior adviser for baseball operations. Angels general manager Billy Eppler said the Hall of Fame manager will assist in all areas, including evaluation­s of players and minor league developmen­t.

ETC.: La. court won’t revive NOLA no-call suit

Louisiana’s Supreme Court has refused to revive a Saints fan’s lawsuit against the NFL over officials’ failure to call a pass interferen­ce penalty at a crucial point in the NFC Championsh­ip game against the Rams in January. The non-call helped the Rams advance to the Super Bowl.

Former New York City FC and Spanish national team star David Villa is becoming a part-owner of a second division team in New York that intends to launch in 2021. United Soccer League’s Queensboro team will play at a new stadium at York College in Queens as well as at Citi Field.

Villa, 37, said he will retire from Japanese club Vissel Kobe next year.
