Kanter: Dolan not to blame for misfortune on Broadway

- By MARC BERMAN

Celtics center Enes Kanter posted a double-double in his first game against the Knicks since being waived last season, schmoozed with James Dolan after the final buzzer and then gave the Knicks owner a vote of confidence.

Kanter was quoted on a Bleacher Report podcast in the offseason, wondering whether free-agent stars didn’t head to New York this summer because of the owner’s reputation.

Kanter, who had a chatty relationship with Dolan when he was a Knick, tried to make up for his apparent slight. He claimed to be texting buddies and heaped strong support Sunday on the maligned bluesman, saying he’s not to blame for the systemic losing.

“We text,’’ Kanter said in the hallway outside the Celtics locker room after Boston outlasted the Knicks 113-104.

“We’re actually really cool buddies now. I got no problems with him. Some other people have problems with him, but I have no problem with him.

“And I will say this: It’s terrible they blame it on this guy every time. I feel like he has done nothing to do with it. You just have to go out there to play basketball. He cannot push you out there to play basketball. I feel like people put blame on him and people are wrong. And we are buddies now.” During the Knicks’ tankfest last season, Kanter was infuriated, criticizing the philosophy of not playing the best players to win. After the fifth game, Fizdale had benched Kanter. He finally got his release at February’s trade deadline and made the Western Conference Finals with Portland.

Knicks center Mitchell Robinson fouled out for the fourth time this season — in 19 minutes.

Fizdale said he’s taken “a little bit of a regression’’ regarding fouling and it’s hurting the club.

After not playing a minute for the first time in his NBA career on Friday, Kevin Knox started in place of the injured Marcus Morris, made 4 of 9 shots for 11 points and had two blocks. Regarding Knox’s reduction in playing time, Fizdale said of the 2018 lottery pick, “He understands why I’m going about it the way I’m going about it. Kevin’s going to dig himself out of it. It’s all development. ... Now people think development is only when you’re playing. Sometimes just watching and taking a step back to see how the game is being played and what needs to be done a lot of times helps a guy get better.’’
