Jones: Ankle is ‘sore’

- By RYAN DUNLEAVY

No need for the Giants to dust off Eli Manning just yet.

When Daniel Jones went into the injury tent on the sideline for trainers to get a better look at his ankle during Sunday’s loss to the Packers, it raised the only non-sentimental-related scenario where the franchise icon might get back under center. But Manning never took off his coat to begin throwing on the sideline, Jones took the final three meaningless snaps of the first half and played the rest of the game. He is expected to fully practice this week, coach Pat Shurmur said.

“It’s sore,” Jones said, “but that’s kind of typical the day after a game. I think I’ll be good to go.”

Jones was injured at the end of a tough 2-yard run on fourth-and-2, when Preston Smith rolled on his ankle making the tackle. He did not need an MRI exam or anything beyond the “normal evaluation,” according to Shurmur.

“I realized when it happened,” Jones said, “but I never really thought it would be something that would keep me from playing.”

➤ Aldrick Rosas, who righted his disappointing season by going 3-for-3 on kicks in the snow including a 45yard field goal, had his shoulder examined after the game. He made a tackle at the end of a 33-yard kickoff return. ... CB Corey Ballentine suffered his second concussion in seven weeks. Shurmur has “no concern” it could be season-ending.

➤ TE Evan Engram originally was given a 2-4 week diagnosis on his sprained foot. Four weeks is up, so will he play Monday?

“He’s making progress,” Shurmur said. “He’s feeling a little bit better each week, so we’ve got actually one more day this week to get him out there.”
