The Jersey City Horror: Jews in the Crosshairs

-

● The tragic events of Jersey City are but one example of the unprecedented rise in homegrown anti-Semitism. Sneers and whispers have suddenly been replaced by beatings and gunfire (“Jersey City ‘Terrorism,’ ” Dec. 13).

Sadly, attacks on those easily identified as Jews and the shootings in synagogues and kosher-food establishments are becoming alarmingly similar to the anti-Semitic outrages that define European Jewish life, both past and present.

Unlike so many others who respond in silence, President Trump has taken a step in the right direction. He should be commended for his executive order to combat the anti-Semitism that has grown exponentially on our college campuses. Silence and inaction simply add insult to injury.

● I live in Jersey City and I have been a mailman for 30 years. I’ve delivered mail in that neighborhood many times. Only recently has there been a surge in the Jewish population.

The majority of the people who live there are minorities. Most have no problem with their Jewish neighbors. Only ignorant people like these two killers feel the need to take innocent human lives.

They are terrorists. I wish they had lived long enough to face the music for their criminal acts.

● Rep. Rashida Tlaib’s (D-Mich.) tweet revealed her own antiwhite racism and hatred in automatically assuming white extremists were behind the Jersey City atrocity. Her tweet exposed the animosity and bigotry in her soul. Edward Sanchez New Rochelle

● In the last few days, Mayor de Blasio has stood in front of press microphones and cameras to condemn the anti-Semitism that drove the killing of two Jews in a Jersey City store.

His audacity should be called out as he is one of many politicians who have kept silent about the virulent anti-Semitism within the Democratic Party. Along with Sen. Chuck Schumer, he has refused to speak out against those within the party who direct open animus at the Jewish people and Israel.
