NCAA: Wofford shocks No. 17 North Carolina

Wofford traveled to Chapel Hill, N.C., and shocked a ranked North Carolina team again, getting 19 points from Trevor Stumpe and riding a 16-0 run in the second half to a 68-64 win over the 17th-ranked Tar Heels on Sunday.

Storm Murphy added 15 points and Messiah Jones had 13 points for the Terriers (7-4), who went on the road to beat North Carolina for the second time in three years.

North Carolina (6-4) played without starters Cole Anthony (right knee) and Leaky Black (sprained right foot).

• Jon Brown came off the bench to score 17 points, Mark Freeman drilled a deep, shot-clock-beating 3-pointer in the final minute and Tennessee State held on to defeat host Fordham 66-61.

Chuba Ohams had 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Rams (5-5). Antwon Portley and Jalen Cobb had 12 points apiece.

MLB: Bauer: Commish trying to ruin baseball

Outspoken Reds pitcher Trevor Bauer is barbing Rob Manfred, tweeting the MLB commission­er “is trying to ruin baseball at all levels.”

Bauer sent a series of tweets during the weekend, starting with a jab about Major League Baseball’s threat to cut ties with minor league affiliates.

Bauer followed up with: “At least Rob Manfred is trying to ruin baseball at all levels and isn’t discrimina­ting. Something to be said for consistenc­y, I guess.”

MLB had no immediate comment to Bauer’s remarks.

NHL: Sabres demote Mittelstad­t to minors

The Sabres have assigned under-performing secondyear center Casey Mittelstad­t to the minors.

The demotion to Rochester of the AHL was made Sunday, a day following a 3-2 overtime loss at the Islanders in which Mittelstad­t was a healthy scratch for the third time in four games.

The 21-year-old has four goals and five assists in 31 games this season and has been limited to just a goal and an assist in his past 21 games. Buffalo selected the playmaking center with the eighth pick in the 2017 draft following his senior year in high school.

GOLF: Sabbatini and Tway win Shootout

In Naples, Fla., Rory Sabbatini and Kevin Tway birdied the final two holes and won the QBE Shootout by two shots.

Jason Kokrak and J.T. Poston finished second. Brendon Todd-Billy Horschel and Harold Varner III-Ryan Palmer tied for third.
