REPORT CARD

OFFENSE

Eli Manning (20 of 28, 283 yards, 2 TDs, 3 INTs) went out as he should, slinging it and winging it — and finally getting a ground game to work with. Good for Eli. Saquon Barkley (24-112, 2 TDs) got his first 100-yard rushing game since Week 2. Rough start for Sterling Shepard with a drop and (questionable) offensive pass interference penalty on first series, but he rebounded with a big (7-107) second half. Left side of line, Nate Solder and Will Hernandez, beaten by stunt on first possession for a sack. Hernandez later got hit with a holding B penalty. Yet another TD for rookie Darius Slayton.

DEFENSE

Good thing the Dolphins were in town, as there were moments of indecision with this unit, especially in the first half. Dalvin Tomlinson is putting together a fine season. He combined with Julian Love on a fourth-down stop and had a sack in the second quarter. Leonard Williams was active and forced a Ryan Fitzpatrick fumble that was recovered by Sean Chandler. CB Sam Beal too often was soft in his coverage but he came up big on an ankletackle of Patrick Laird in the end zone for a safety. Three sacks of Fitzpatrick, who did some damage with his legs. Rookie CB DeAndre Baker showed some toughness coming C+ back after getting his knee knocked.

SPECIAL TEAMS

Da’Mari Scott brought some juice to the field with a 34-yard punt return in the third quarter. Riley Dixon, perhaps the top-performing player on the roster, had a 53-yard punt in the third quarter that rolled dead on the Miami 5-yard line. Aldrick Rosas missed an extra point, but he did have four touchbacks on B+ his kickoffs. Cody Latimer had a 28-yard kickoff return.

COACHING

Good job by Pat Shurmur orchestrating a nice farewell for Manning, taking him off the field after the two-minute warning so he could receive a rousing ovation. Play-calling by Shurmur certainly looks better when he has a running game to lean on. Defensive coordinator James Bettcher has to sink or swim with young cornerbacks now that Janoris

Jenkins is banished and Miami B WR DeVante Parker (4-72, 2 TDs) was effective, but did not wreck the game.
