TO THE VICTOR GO THE SPOILS

- by Mark Cannizzaro

HERO

Le’Veon Bell didn’t put up flashy numbers, rushing for 72 yards on a season-high 25 carries. Those numbers are a little skewed by a 13-yard loss he took on a first-half run on which he tried to reverse field. Take that run away and he rushed for 85 yard on 24 carries, which is more representative of his day against his former team.

UNSUNG HERO

With the offense sputtering in the second half, Sam Darnold had his best moments at the start of a fourth-quarter drive with the Jets clinging to a 13-10 lead. He completed three consecutive passes for 37 yards to get the drive going and it ended in a field goal for the 16-10 lead.

ZERO

Steelers rookie quarterback Devlin Hodges completed 11 of 17 passes for just 84 yards and threw two interceptions, one of which came in the end zone by safety Marcus Maye. Hodges was benched for Mason Rudolph and then had to return when Rudolph suffered a left shoulder injury in the second half.

KEY STAT

4 Touchdowns

Robby Anderson has scored in his past six games, after hauling in one over his first nine games.

‘ I looked back and I said, ‘Oh s--t,’ and then I saw the ball come out and all I remember doing was like, ‘Yeah.’ I had some explicit words for some of the Steelers fans. They were talking trash during pregame warm-ups. I ’ had a few words for them and a couple of gestures that aren’t pretty nice.
