Adams’ Jab at ‘Iowans’ ‘Taking Over New York’

THE ISSUE: Eric Adams’ comment to people who have moved to Brooklyn to “go back” to their home states.

-

I didn’t think it was possible, but it looks like if Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams became mayor, he would be even worse than Mayor de Blasio. He told people in Brooklyn to “go back” to Ohio and Iowa (“Adams to other-state B’klynites: Go back!” Jan. 21).

Adams only sees skin color. New York City is the greatest city in the world because the best, the brightest and the most creative come here from all over the country and the world. Adams sees this as a problem. Carol Meltzer Manhattan

Adams, a potential New York City mayoral candidate, has played the race card in order to get elected. Instead of seeking unity on MLK Day, Adams looked to divide.

While he has a problem with middle-class white people moving into our city, buying and renting properties, spending money, paying taxes and revitalizing once-rundown neighborhoods, he seems to have no problem with welcoming illegal immigrants, who sometimes have no choice but to seek help, financially and otherwise, from an already overtaxed public. Adams made a speech — on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, no less — telling people from other states to go back to where they came from.

Apparently, in this bizzarro world we live, this rhetoric is fine for some, and not for others.

Where is the outrage from our president’s detractors on Adams’ apparently racist speech? Michael Murphy Mahopac

It isn’t the fault of our white, Midwestern friends that housing is expensive in New York. After all, liberals run this city and liberals write the zoning laws.

Those same folks could write the laws in a way so that people building largescale, affordable housing complexes in target communities could be rewarded financially and with a streamlined construction process.

White people are 43 percent of this city’s population. It may be in vogue to beat up on them for the color of their skin, but they did not choose the color of their skin and should not be abused for political gain over it. A black Republican should not have to point that out. Joel Anabilah-Azumah Brooklyn
