Kitchens expected to join staff

MOBILE, Ala. — Joe Judge is putting the finishing touches on his staff, conducting interviews while down south at the Senior Bowl.

The Giants wanted the 38-year old Judge to assemble a group sprinkled with experience, and it looks as if he is doing just that. Freddie Kitchens, out after one year as the Browns head coach, is expected to have a role on Judge’ s staff, according to AL.com. Kitchens and Judge worked together at Mississippi State in 2005, and during his many stops Kitchens worked nearly everywhere on the offensive side of the ball. Judge has yet to hire a tight ends coach and Kitchens coached that position when he and Judge were together in Starkville.

Kitchens went 6-10 in his only season as the Browns head coach. He could be the second former NFL head coach on Judge’s staff, joining Jason Garrett, who was hired as the offensive coordinator after a decade as the head man for the Cowboys.

Judge is hiring Jerome Henderson to coach the Giants defensive backs, The Post confirmed, and Bret Bielema to work with the defensive side, according to NFL Net

work. Both are veteran coaches. Bielema is a former head coach at Wisconsin and Arkansas and spent the past two years on the Patriots staff with Judge. Bielema in 2018 was a consultant to Bill Belichick and in 2019 was the defensive line coach, his first NFL experience. Bielema has also coached linebackers, a spot yet to be filled on Judge’s staff.
