Clutch Morris carries Knicks in overtime to claim second straight win

CLEVELAND — The Knicks will roll into Thursday’s trade deadline on a two-game winning streak after an exciting 139-134 overtime victory over the Cavaliers as Marcus Morris pulled out the clutch bag again.

The Knicks rallied from a 10-point hole with 5:17 left in regulation, then blew a late three-point lead before righting themselves in overtime to go 2-0 on the road trip.

The Knicks forward combination of Morris and Julius Randle, as they did two weeks ago in a rout of the Cavs, came up big, each hitting late overtime baskets. The Knicks moved to 15-36 and interim coach Mike Miller to 11-18.

After shaking off a stomach virus that prevented him from attending the morning shootaround, Morris, who is being shopped, finished with 26 points, hitting two late daggers.

Randle struck for 20 points and collected the game-sealing rebound with eight seconds left. Morris also keyed the Saturday win in Indiana with eight points in the final three minutes.

“I put in the extra work and put myself in those situations and coach putting myself in great situations,’’ Morris said of his rising status as a closer.

Their final game before the trade deadline gave general manager Scott Perry lots to ponder when deciding whether to blow up this roster, particularly when it comes to dealing Morris.

Back from his one-game suspension, starting point guard Eflrid Payton added a triple-double to the Knicks’ efforts, posting 17 points, 15 assists and 11 rebounds in 33 minutes.

“He was very aggressive

and made really good decisions,’’ Miller said.

But the big baskets came from Randle and Morris late. Randle scored in transition on a lovely spin move for a 133-132 lead with 1:19 left in overtime. Morris gave the Knicks a 135-134 lead with an 18-footer with 55 seconds left. Then he all but iced it with an 18-footer with 13 seconds left, putting the up 137-134 .

“He’s the guy who comes always ready to play,’’ Miller said.

The Knicks allowed the Cavaliers to score 37 points in the first quarter Monday. That came two days after the Knicks allowed a season-low 11 first-quarter points in Indiana against a much better team.

That’s 26 more points than Saturday, thanks to a red-hot Kevin Love in perhaps his final game in a Cavs uniform. Love, who put up 17 first-quarter points and 33 total, is being shopped as the trade deadline approaches.

“They made everything’’ Miller said. “This was the total opposite of the game we just played in [92-85 versus the Pacers]. That’s one of the reasons I feel good about it, winning a different way.’’
