Reviving New York After COVID
THE ISSUE: Potential strategies for New York state to reopen the economy after the coronavirus lockdown.
I have one simple question to ask Gov. Cuomo and Mayor de Blasio (“Reopening New York — and Keeping It Safe,” PostOpinion, Corey Johnson & Stephen Levin, May 2).
In six, eight, 10 or 12 more weeks, when you decide to let me and millions of other New Yorkers reclaim our lives and return to work, will you guarantee our safety against COVID? The simple answer is most likely “no.”
So if the answer is the same today as it will be weeks from today, why not let us return to our livelihoods to save our homes, put food on our tables, secure our children’s futures?
The medical science is not changing any time soon. It was understood why the initial quarantine had to take place: COVID-19 was devastating and front-line workers did an amazing job to protect us, but now it’s Cuomo and de Blasio’s extended response that’s becoming devastating.
If you’re in a high-risk category and need to stay away for now, do that. The rest of us will go to work to pay our taxes so the government can help those people.
