Meat shortages hit New MacBook bows

The meat shortages have come sooner than expected — likely thanks to hoarders.

Costco on Monday said it will be limiting customers to just three packages of meat per shopper, while Kroger supermarkets posted an alert on the meat section of its Web site warning that it may have limited inventory “due to high demand.”

Grocers have been bracing for a run on meat in mid-May as major meat-processing plants, including Tyson Foods, have been forced to shut down production. But the shortages appear to have come earlier than expected, as consumers worried about the meat shortage have been stocking up, experts say.

Tyson Foods, which had closed a number of plants last month after employees had become ill with the coronavirus, said on Monday the pandemic will disrupt the meat supply chain for many more months despite an executive order from President Trump to keep processing plants open.

Among its better known brands are Hillshire Farm and Jimmy Dean.

Apple on Monday unveiled a new 13inch MacBook Pro, officially discontinuing its last remaining model with the much-hated “butterfly” keyboard.

The new Pro, which starts at $1,299, features a keyboard modeled after the company’s popular Magic Keyboard that’s based on an older, scissor-like mechanism.

Apple four months ago released a 16-inch MacBook Pro model with its new keyboard that ditched the “butterfly” design, which Apple had introduced to enable ever-thinner laptops, but which proved faulty.

In addition to keys that are prone to sticking and breaking when crumbs or dust gets under them, users griped that the butterfly keys were prone to typos and felt weird to type on.

The unreliable keys forced Apple to introduce a free keyboard repair program in 2018. The updated version will provide double the storage of its predecessor, with a capacity of up to 1 terabyte.

Most Apple stores around the world remain closed due to the coronavirus pandemic, but some stores in South Korea recently began to reopen.
