Seton Hall reloading continues with prep PG

The best programs in the country don’t rebuild. They reload. They replace stars with stars. They develop, they recruit well and they build upon previous select group success annually.

Seton Hall is starting to fit into that select group. The Pirates’ on-court success — they would’ve reached their fifth consecutive NCAA Tournament in March and received their highest tournament seed since 1993 if not for the novel coronavirus pandemic wiping out the postseason — is now starting to segue into positive recruiting results, too.

The latest domino to fall in Seton Hall’s favor came Monday night, when highly regarded point guard Ryan Conway gave coach Kevin Willard a verbal pledge, becoming the first member of his 2021 class.

“It helps a lot,” Conway told The Post. “A program that wins a lot is very appealing.”

Conway’s commitment continued what has been a strong offseason for Willard and Co. The Pirates landed Harvard sharpshooter Bryce Aiken, one of the premier guards on the transfer market. They also picked up Missouri transfer Tray Jackson, a former top-100 recruit who didn’t play much as a freshman, and are firmly in the mix with four-star high school big men Frank Anselem and Adama Sanogo.

Aiken picked Seton Hall over Michigan, Maryland and Iowa State. Jackson was seen as leaning toward Mississippi State for most of his recruitment. Conway, a three-star recruit ranked 132nd in the country by 247Sports.com, chose Willard’s program over Vanderbilt, Rutgers, Providence, Marquette and Stanford.

“They don’t have to rely anymore on under-the-radar guys and hoping they work out,” said Corey Evans, a recruiting analyst for Rivals.com.
